POETRY ~ DANIEL MITSUI

My approach to poetry is like my approach to visual art; I want my verse to be detailed and vigorously medieval in spirit. I write in meter and rhyme, with an early modern diction. I write both religious and humorous verse.

The WRETCH on the GALLOWS TREE

My first poetry collection, The Wretch on the Gallows Tree, will be published in early 2024. It includes forty religious poems, mostly carol and hymn texts on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, following the sequence of the liturgical year. I designed the typefaces, ornament, and illustrations used in the book.

MUSICAL SETTINGS of MY POETRY

I prefer to write in popular, singable verse forms, such as carols and ballads. I invite composers to set my poetry to music; some already have, and have allowed their compositions to be downloaded here.
