DIES IRÆ
PRINT by DANIEL MITSUI
This print displays the first verse of the Dies Iræ sequence that is sung during the Requiem Mass:
Dies iræ! Dies illa!
Solvet sæclum in favilla:
Teste David cum Sibylla.
Day of wrath and doom impending!
David’s word with Sibyl’s blending,
Heaven and earth in ashes ending!
The text is set in a typeface that I designed myself, surrounded by millefleur ornament. To the right are King David and the Eritrean Sibyl, the two prophets of doomsday mentioned in the sequence.
The print is about one and a half times larger than the original artwork.
Dimensions: 15" × 12"
