Ss. Volodymyr and Olha, one of the most gorgeous churches in the city, was founded in 1968 by a traditionalist group that split from the cathedral parish of St. Nicholas in order to maintain observance according to the Julian Calendar.
The church was consecrated in 1973 by Patriarch Josyp Slipyj, cardinal in pectore, 18 years a prisoner of the gulags, one of the many heroic Catholic leaders who endured the terrible perecutions of the Communist regimes in Easten Europe.
