JESUS CHRIST in MAJESTY with SERAPHIM and CHERUBIM
DRAWING by DANIEL MITSUI
My patron requested a drawing that illustrated a connection between the Crucified and the Glorified Christ, showing that they are one and the same. Here I modified the arrangement and pose from the familiar icon of Christ in Majesty into a shape of a cross. I depicted Jesus wearing the blood-spattered garment mentioned in the prophecy of Isaiah and the Apocalypse of St. John. He is surrounded by blue four-winged cherubim, the Tetramorphs described by Ezekiel that correspond to the four Evangelists. Below them are two red six-winged seraphim, one of whom holds a banderole with the inscription Verbum caro factum est, and the other a censer.
