Daniel Mitsui  ~  Religious Drawings  ~  St. Fiacre

This is an ink drawing on a 5" × 7" piece of Bristol board. I drew it using fine-tipped pens; calligraphers’ inks applied with brushes; and 23k gold leaf and palladium leaf.

The original was created on private commission.

It is formatted as a recto page in an illuminated manuscript. The central image depicts St. Fiacre, a 7th century Irish-French hermit who is the patron saint of gardeners.

The saint holds a spade and an open Bible, and stands before his chapel, which is surrounded by blossoming plants. The lettering reads Sancte Fiacre, ora pro nobis, St. Fiacre, pray for us.

The ornamental border surrounding the central image and the text contains a cucumber vine, a bee and two butterflies.

An open-edition giclée print of this drawing is available for $33. You may use the button below to pay via PayPal, debit card or credit card. Be sure to confirm the shipping address.
